Chatham, along with many South Side communities, has been designated a “food desert”. Our community does not have enough grocery stores and has too many fast food outlets, convenience stores and liquor stores that offer us high-priced, low-quality food options. Lack of access to healthy, fresh foods means our community suffers from a high rate of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Access to Healthy and Affordable Food is Critical for Our Community
- Access to affordable, healthy food options means a healthier community
- A Wal-Mart Supercenter at Chatham Market will bring access to affordable food choice
- Location is Critical – Chatham Market is a convenient & local solution for South Side residents
